Amanda Sum - 'Different Than Before'

Mayumi Yoshida

Born in Japan, raised in three continents, Mayumi Yoshida is a Director, Writer, Actor, based in Vancouver, BC. Her father being a journalist, she had an international childhood living in Washington D.C., Brussels, and Tokyo.

She’s an alumna of various talent programs in Canada including Women in the Director’s Chair Career Advancement Module, Women in Focus Mentorship at Whistler Film Festival, WarnerMedia x Canadian Academy Access Writers Program, TIFF Netflix Talent Accelerator Fellowship, and TIFF Writer’s Studio.

Recently she worked as a story editor on Ins Choi (Kim’s Convenience)’s new series in development.

Mayumi's latest short film/Music Video “Different Than Before” by Amanda Sum (Creative BC grant and RBC & Prism Prize Winner) that stars Tzi Ma (Mulan) and Olivia Cheng (Warrior) was selected as Vimeo Staff Pick and won Best Music Video at the 45th annual Asian American International Film Festival in New York City, among selections at HollyShorts Film Festival and Aesthetica Short Film Festival (a BAFTA qualifying festival).

Currently, she is working on the upcoming APPLE TV+/A24 TV series “SUNNY” as an Associate Producer and Cultural Consultant, filmed in Tokyo and Kyoto.
