Exposure Video Editing Contest Launches its Final Act

Posted June 3, 2013

Vancouver – (June 3, 2013) - The local grass-roots initiative Exposure announces the Five Finalists of their 2013 video editing contest. For the past two months, the competing video editors from around the world have been feverishly cutting together footage from the debut video of local buzz band and Peak Performance project winners, Dear Rouge.

In an effort to bring recognition to the struggling independent filmmakers of Vancouver, the Exposure Team, made up of young filmmakers and innovators, joined forces with Dear Rouge to produce a music video for their hit single, “Thinking About You”.

The Exposure Team released the footage online, via their platform, for any editors to sign up and create their own unique version, and compete for the chance to win acclaim as the Official Editor and the opportunity to be involved in Dear Rouge’s next video project.

Expecting local participation, the Exposure Team was amazed by the international response. Over the course of the contest, 184 editors from 17 countries signed up, 40 videos made the cut, and 36,282 views later, 5 finalists were chosen. The Finalists include Vancouver's own Paolo Kalalo, Caspar Ryan and Conrad Olson, Germany's Florian Jahnel and Greece's Dimitris Kadis.

On Thursday June 20th, at Club 560 located in the heart of Vancouver, the videos of the Five Finalists will be screened for a panel of judges, including: Paul Armstrong, the Executive Producer of Crazy 8s and David Vertesi of the local hit band, Hey Ocean!, among others.

The stakes were raised when the Exposure Team announced that their Grand Prize will also include a Short Film Production Package – valued at $9000 – generously sponsored by the local sound-mixing studio DBC Sound, and the international production equipment rental house, William F. White. The purpose of the prize is to provide the winning editor with the opportunity to craft a short film to be entered into festivals and to help launch his or her professional career.

The Exposure Grand Finale Gala will also feature some of Vancouver’s emerging indie-talent, including live performances from Dear Rouge, The River and the Road and Fake - a newly formed band including members of Hey Ocean!
